Rules and Regulations for Dance Classes

  1. Our classes are usually progressive and are usually taught in sequences of 4 or 8 weeks each. The cost of each 4-week sequence is $12 for non-members (see membership rule). The cost of each 8-week sequence is $24 for non-members. This fee of $12 or $24 must be paid in full on the first day of class before the start of class. You may not pay regularly on a per-lesson basis.
  2. If you miss the first day of classes in a sequence and wish to enter the next week:
    1. You may not enter the sequence after the second class.
    2. You may enter the class only if you get explicit permission of the instructor in advance before the start of the next class. No walk-ins will be permitted.
    3. You may enter only if you are familiar with - and able to catch up on - the material learned in the previous class. It is not the instructors responsibility to help you catch up.
    4. If you do enter after the start of a sequence you must pay on per-lesson basis, $5 per class. Thus, $15 or $40 for the sequence, when you enter at second class, with instructor's permission.
  3. For all classes labeled as intermediate or advanced: students are expected to have taken a pre-requisite class with us. If you haven't taken classes with us before but think that your level is high enough for an intermediate/advanced class you must arrange a time to discuss this with the instructor before the start of the sequence.   4. We do not allow unauthorized photography or videotaping during classes.
  5. You may not wear: heavy shoes or boots or sandals or flip-flops or dance barefoot. In bad weather you should bring a change of shoes.
  6. You may not give instruction to other students in the class. If your partner is having troubles with the step, please ask the class instructors or TAs for some help.

Membership Rules

  1. A quarterly membership is avaliable for everyone at $70 for the University affiliates (with UofC ID) and $80 for others. Members can attend any of our dance classes for free, as well as any parties that will be happening throughout the year.
  2. This membership can be bought only during the first 3 weeks of each Quarter.
  3. Administration of the Ballroom and Latin Dance association reserves a right to take away a membership from anyone who does not comply with the rules.

Administration

  1. If you wish to get involved in the Club please contact the current president at ballroom @ uchicago . edu. Please attach your resume and/or statment of purpose.
  2. There is an interview for all the officers.
  3. There is an audition for all the dance instructors. We also established an instructor training program that everyone has to go through.
